Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

Another type of image guidance for breast biopsy is stereotactic guidance - the use of a computer and x-ray images taken from two different angles to accurately localize the suspicious area so a needle can be precisely placed. Stereotactic breast biopsy is often used to evaluate calcium deposits in suspicious areas of the breast. A specifically designed table will allow you to lie face down with your breast hanging freely through an opening in the table. Your breast will be compressed and the biopsy performed beneath the table. Biopsies are performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and by our board-certified, specialty-trained breast radiologists.
